Do you know what a bucket list is? If not, basically, it’s a list of things you’d like (prefer) to do before it’s too late. It could include anything, really, no matter how seemingly ridiculous or extravagant. This list doesn’t need to be completed, but at least a fair portion of the items should be things you could do. As you get older, though, it becomes harder to get them done. What happens, then, if you reach a point and need some help, such as from a home care aide? Do you think it could be possible to still do some of the things you might have on your bucket list?
It’s possible. No one can say for certain that none of the things on your list are no longer possible, but there’s probably at least a few that remain within that realm.
What could make it possible through the support of a home care aide?
The more experience a home care aide has in helping aging seniors, the more likely he or she could be able to support someone you love in his or her endeavors.
Let’s say this is your elderly father who has a long list of things he’d still enjoy doing, things from his bucket list. However, perhaps with a heart attack, stroke, injuries, or age slowing him down, those ideas may have moved into the backdrop of his life.
Now it’s more about keeping him safe rather than focusing on a bucket list he could have put together some time ago.
A home care aide with experience is someone who will understand a thing or two about quality of life. They are certainly focused on providing the right level of support and care, as well as safety for senior clients, but they also recognize how vital it is to also maintain quality of life.
This is something that far too often gets overlooked by family members worried about the safety and immediate welfare of aging loved ones.
What about for someone who has trouble walking?
Maybe your father relies on a cane or walker to get around. Getting out of bed or from a recliner is tougher these days. How could a home care aide make a difference in his life? How could a home care aide actually help him pursue some of those things he once dreamed of doing (or thought could be possible once upon a time)?
Firstly, they can offer physical help so he could get around with a bit more ease. This may open up a wide range of activities from his bucket list, like traveling, visiting the ocean, or checking out a local museum or art gallery.
Secondly, a home care aide will provide encouragement. Not all of them will, but those who have experience know the importance of staying active and focusing on the future. Never underestimate the positive emotional impact that home care can have on seniors who still have goals they’d like to pursue.
